Our mission

A food hub connects everyone — from producers to consumers.

The Alderson Community Food Hub was created to coordinate local markets, groceries, gardens and education in a way that benefits both the people who produce food and the people who bring it home.

“To provide access to nutritious food, to foster community participation, and to cultivate an awareness of sustainable food systems in the Greenbrier Valley.”

Programs and projects

Local food, shared knowledge and a place to participate.

The former website described an interconnected set of programs serving shoppers, growers, children, seniors and local producers.

Grow together

Community Gardens

Historical gardens were located at St. Mary of the Greenbrier Catholic Church and the FEMA lot on the Monroe County side of the river.

A 2016 partnership with Grow Appalachia offered workshops, training, seeds, tools, soil testing, tilling and soil amendments for community and home gardeners.

Young neighbors

Carrot Club & education

The Community Market's Carrot Club encouraged children to learn about healthy eating, local buying, gardening and community participation through weekly activities and rewards.

Educational programming connected food choices with a sustainable future for the Greenbrier Valley.
